OT: How are they doing this?

For the purists where should digital start.

For some like Phil Ramone who does the Gramys TV brodcast. It starts at the mic splitter and ends at you TV set. For others it starts after the Neve analogue mixer and ends at your TV set.
It's a mad world out there.Theres nothing like the sound of a NEVE and if you can reproduce it's musicality . I'll go for after the analogue mixer.

And get a horse too. I remember reading posts just like that about digital cameras 10 years ago.

The best of analog sounds pretty good. But relatively cheap digital is pretty darn good. I have no problem with you buying your vintage Neve. But for what you pay I'll get a whole studio and a heckuva a lot of Altecs.

It's a poor workman who blames his tools. I have seen good engineers make silk purses out of sow's ear equipment.

If the digital gear is better than the operator-99% of engineers on the planet- no amount of analog will make one whit of difference.

Steve Miller was a "one hit wonder" for years. And it wasn't even that big a hit. Of course being Les Paul's Godson didn't hurt him.

What makes a great recording? If you can bottle it name your price.

+2, I don't know how some of the musical artists today are even popular. I still think some of the Best Music has already been written I'm just "Old School" I guess...

The thing is, it's not our music. Youngsters of today live different lives. Our parents didn't like rock. Their parents didn't like Jazz...there were probably people who thought ragtime was "the devil's music".

BTW I take exception to bad artists being popular only lately.

Anybody remember The Archies? How about Ohio Express? Not a lot of today's music is worse than "Yummy Yummy Yummy".
